During the time, 1978 to 1985, the typical S-100 system's average cost was $14,000, so it paid to repair all computer components. As more people utilized computers and memory/processor technology progressed, computers became a commodity and prices dropped by a factor of ten (or more).  Now, due to inexpensive parts and rapid obsolescence, the most expedient service action is to replace rather than repair.  In many cases the parts become obsolete and unavailable so fast, it is THE ONLY repair option.
